Chirpy the Cricket
A children's Poem
by CP Dhuet

Chirpy was a very sad cricket
Because his chirpers wouldn’t chirp
No matter how hard he tried
His chirpers wouldn’t work.

Of course all little boys and girls
Know that crickets need to chirp
That is their only job in life
How sad if it doesn’t work.

Mom cricket said to her sad son Chirpy
To the Cricket doctor we will go
To find out why your chirper doesn’t work
When you rub your legs to and fro.

Well Chirpy there’s no problem
Said the cricket doctor to sad Chirpy
I see that you have been chewing pine sap
It makes most crickets happy.

Some of the sap stuck to your chirpers
Now when you rub your legs to and fro
No sound they make, they must be dry
This you and your mom should know.

Now sad Chirpy is a happy cricket
He is the loudest in cricket land
He keeps his chirpers clean and dry
No longer any need for Chirpy
To hang his head and cry.

Note: Children's poems are not easy for adults to write. It is difficult to keep the words simple enough for children to understand.
